In cases like that, it is possible to apply for a duplicate of the ‘TIE’ (for ‘Tarjeta de Identificación de Extranjero’ or Foreigner Identification Card) at the Police Station or Foreigner Office of our city, alleging reasons of loss, steal or deterioration of the residency card.

Application of a duplicate of the residency card

In case of loss or stealing of the residency card, it will be obligatory to bring the denunciation for this reasons at the Policía Nacional o Guardia Civil. Otherwise, it will not be possible to get a new card.

Besides, we have to take into account that, in order to obtain a duplicate of the residency card, it is necessary to have the passport in vigour. So, if we also have lost our passport, we should get first a new one at the Consulate of our country in Spain and then, head for the Immigration Office (‘Extranjería’)

If we lose this card while being abroad (out of Spain), the problem worsens because consulates in Spain doesn’t process this type of procedures.
